THE SLUMBOX MUSIC PROJECT
Slumbox’s soundtrack contains more than 250 individual songs from over 50 different bands from the scenes of Wales and beyond. Particularly the thriving South Wales Scene.
With bands like Dim Parcio, Chroma, and Spit Hood (all pictured) and many more from dozens of genres.
In truth the Slumbox soundtrack comes with a unique ambition. To take the many overlooked artists from Wales and give them a global platform. There are many unique and incredible sounds that often don’t make it to many ears and we hope to change that. With over 450 bands considered for the soundtrack, we really did pick the best of the best.
Early concepts for the radio station logos
Since the beginning we have planned to have a dynamic set of radio stations inspired by beloved game franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row.
While most stations will be genre specific, there are others that are just plain weird.
We’ve got stations like Viper Radio (Punk), Spinkick FM (Hardcore Punk), Raindance Rock FM (Psychrock), Wub Mountain (Dubstep), Electrowave (Electronic).
But also stations like Fartbox FM (Nothing but 24/7 fart sounds), Schizzochat FM (Someone having a breakdown, self aware that they are in a videogame), and Random Radio (which just plays anything).
One thing is for certain, you will have no shortage of things to listen to while flicking through the radio in your house or driving around the city.
Slumbox’s music system is complex and deep. Those 250+ songs have over 100k variants each meaning there are over 20 million tapes out there in the wild for you to find. With such a range, you may stumble upon a modified CD no one else ever has and find a new sound. Maybe a heavily slowed down Drum and Bass tune that bangs harder than a carcrash… Just as likely you’ll find a tape with a combination that makes it completely unlistenable.
So what types of tape can we expect to find in Slumbox?
Outside of the more superficial traits a tape can have like being dirty or blood covered, there are a number of different effect types:
Durability - By default tapes have 30 listens before they break, but you can find flimsy tapes that break in 3, disposables that are single use, duramodded and gigaduramoded that increase the listens significantly… Or Infiniplay which gives it 3000 listens and basically guarentees you will have the tape for life.
Official or Bootleg - Is this the real thing or a Bootleg? Bootleg tapes are always cheaper but there is a horrible buzzing noise that blasts out while you listen. Some much more noisy tapes actually don’t do so bad with this but for the most part a Bootleg will be difficult to listen to.
Speed Effects - You can find tapes that are slow, superslow, slowcracked, speedy, superspeed, and speedcracked. These range from mild to dramatic changes to pitch which in some cases can make even better song variants but in others make what was once a good song unlistenable.
Other Modifiers - We have Vibratohack which makes the pitch of the track oscillate making a weird effect over the sound, and Speedwarp which is similar but much more dramatic meaning one minute your song is super slow, then the next it’s extremely fast. You can also find Choppy tapes which are always cheaper and cut out while listening.
What’s Next?
We at Worldviper HQ are currently in negotiations with dozens of bands and artists and will continue to grow our massive soundtrack. The current world record for a soundtrack according to Guiness World Records is GTA IV with it’s 2 main DLCs with a whopping 340 songs. We’re just north of 250 at the moment and are hot in pursuit keen to break the record ourselves.
